ARTIST'S STATEMENT :

Creating has always helped me tell my story to the world. I started making art as a child before I really knew what art was. Even at a very young age I felt a pressing need to express an inner self. I drew and painted. In adolescence and young adulthood I explored multi-media collage, costume, make-up art, and most recently photography. My quest has always been to express, to explore who I am.

I have been greatly affected by works that dare to explore a woman’s deeper sense of self. Some of those artists I respect include Frida Kahlo, Cyndi Sherman, and Brooke Shaden.

This year I have had tremendous fun expressing myself through a series of daily self-portraits called the 366 Project. My work focuses on themes of femininity, mythology fantasy and nature.

When I first started this project I had no idea the deep impact it would have on me, and even those around me. It has been a project of great reward and great challenge. I’ve experienced days of creative frustration and physically challenged building sets and costumes or learning to create and hold poses. There were days when I just didn’t feel in inspired. But for each of those moments of difficulty I have enjoyed many more moments of elation so stirring I felt I was soaring!

Through the 366 Project I have connected with many people through sites like flickr and face book where I have been sharing the work since day 1.  It has been very exciting to invite people see my art as it is happening. It is my hope that this body of work will spark others to take a deep look inside and to embrace creative self-expression that is both challenging and rewarding.
